Gender Wage Gap in the U.S. Tech Industry
The gender wage gap is a continuous problem in workplaces worldwide, more specifically, the gender pay gap in the United States tech industry. This is further compounded by race in some countries, where the racial spectrum correlates to who has the most power in society... but this is a conversation for the next blog post. According to Forbes, women in the tech industry are undercompensated by 2.8% less than men in similar job titles. This is a problem in the tech industry, and also the workforce as a whole, as women are having to work longer and obtain more education to get similar recognition and salary as their male counterparts.
According to the CIO editorial article, increasing the number of women in the tech industry has been a constant struggle. U.S. Census data shows that software engineering jobs have 25% fewer women applicants between the ERP, UI/UX design roles, etc. In a 2021 survey conducted by TrustRadius, they found that 78% of women in tech felt pressured to work harder in order to prove their worth and only 58% of men felt the same pressure. Women continue to feel competitive pressure to prove themselves in a male dominated industry.
In the Dynamics Space, women comprise about 33% of the workforce, up from the national average in tech, but still well below equal representation. While we can only accurately discuss the Microsoft Dynamics market, a common theme from female candidates is that their compensation is still not at the same level of their male counterparts.
